Full analysis of one music magazine

Top of the pops magazine had it's first issue released in 1995, and was a magazine to go along side the TV program "top of the pops". It includes all the latest gossip on the most popular celebrities, It features chart information, fashion and beauty advice, quizzes, song lyrics and posters. It is still in publication even tho the TV program has been cancelled. Top of the pops magazine is published by Immediate Media Company. It has a website - www.totpmag.com

Location props and costume report

I took all my photo's in the media studio or against the wall outside the college. I had no costumes because the clothes my models were wearing fitted my target audience so there was no need.

Target audience mood board and analysis

I chose to include popular artists like One Direction, Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, the Saturdays, The Vamps, Ariana Grande, and the High School Musical Crew because they are mostly only popular with this age group (8-12 years old). Everything Else I chose to include because this age range really spring to mind when I look at all of the things that I have included in my mood board. For example, I wouldn’t choose to buy a One Direction perfume for anyone older than 14.

Fonts mood board and analysis

I put the “alba Super” font on my mood board because I have decided to use that font for my masthead for my final piece magazine, “Stars In Your Eyes”. I chose the “Franklin Gothic Heavy” and Comic Sans MS, because they are simple ~The other fonts are for the text message effect. I might put a mobile and represent a text message with these fonts.

Colours mood board and analysis

I decided to create my colour mood board like this because for my magazine I want to put as many colours on as possible, and mainly the colours Blue, yellow and pink. I think that these colours put together will cause the target audience to see the magazine in shops and then there is a higher chance of the reader buying the magazine.

Advertising mood board and analysis

I chose these brands too put in my mood board because my target audience will use them. For example, 8-12 year olds will definitely visit fast food franchises like KFC and McDonalds, drink drinks like Coca cola, Sprite, Fanta, eat lots of chocolate, for example Galaxy chocolate, and go to a place called Elle Moo’s. When I was 8-12 I visited Claire’s accessories a lot and I believe that this age group still does visit Claire’s accessories, so I decided to include the logo in my mood board. At this age group it is considered “cool” too wear designer brands such as Hollister and Superdry, and many of the young people wear New look Clothes, as they can’t afford Topshop, Zara etc. My Target audience choose to visit places like Funky Monkey’s and Pleasure wood hills so I decided to put the logos on my mood board. I chose to put the Mother Care logo on my mood board because it is unlikely that the young people will be buying the magazines because the parents usually buy the magazines for them, so I put an advertisement in there for the adults as well.
